LAD #7 Thomas Jefferson First Inaugural Address
Jefferson begins by thanking and acknowledging his friends and fellow citizens. He is both anxious and excited to take on his first executive position of office.People are allowed to write and speak whatever they want under the constitution, but he wants everyone in America to unite as a whole. He states that this resource is of wisdom, of virtue, and of zeal on which to rely under all difficulties. He wants everyone to remember the things they have gotten rid of such as religious intolerance and political intolerance. Under the Constitution one should be protected and their rights reserved.
American government is better than other governments because it is representative. It is set up so that power is distributed and is not just in the hands of one individual, this is know as separation of powers. Jefferson believes that he holds the principles that are key to run this country. He will treat all men equally, whether it be on religion, politics etc. He will continue with the policy of neutrality in foreign affairs. He realizes being a president means that people will think of reasons to hate you, untill you are out of office and they can see what an impact they really had on their counrty. He also wanted to "...retain the good opinion of those who have bestowed it in advance, to conciliate that of others by doing them all the good in my power, and to be instrumental to the happiness and freedom of all. "
